About Carpentry

Good carpentry is what makes a remodel feel finished: square framing, tight joints, and trim that belongs to the house. It is also the built-ins, stairs and millwork people notice.

We handle structural framing and finish carpentry, including shelving, stair work and wall paneling sized to the room you have.

What is included

  • Framing and door or window openings
  • Trim, molding and paneling
  • Built-ins, shelving and closets
  • Cabinet installation and modification
  • Stairs and railings
  • Repairs to existing woodwork

Built for Houston

Trim that belongs to the house.

Houston's older neighborhoods still have casing, stairs and panel profiles worth keeping. Newer houses in Memorial, Katy and The Woodlands often need the opposite: millwork that gives a plain room a point of view.

We match what should stay and build what the room is missing. Material is acclimated in the house before it is cut, so new trim sits with the old instead of fighting it.

  • 01

    Older profiles

Heights, Rice Village and West University trim is often worth matching. We look at the existing profile before we recommend new.

  • 02

    Built-ins and stairs

Shelving, closets, stair treads and railings are sized to the opening, whether the house is a bungalow or a two-story.

  • 03

    Structure you do not see

Opening a wall in a 1940s bungalow is different from framing in a 2000s two-story. We inspect before we cut.

How it goes

What to expect, step by step.

  1. 01

    Consult

We come to you, look closely, and listen. A walkthrough of the space, measurements, an inspection of what is behind the surfaces, and a conversation about what you want and what is realistic.

  2. 02

    Plan

Materials and budget, settled before work begins. We help you choose materials and finishes, review the budget together, and define the scope so there are few surprises later.

  3. 03

    Prepare

The work you never see, done properly. Protecting your home, then demolition or surface, subfloor and site preparation, because good finishes depend on what is underneath.

  4. 04

    Build

Skilled hands on the actual work. Installation or restoration carried out by our team, with one point of contact for questions along the way.

  5. 05

    Finish

Details, checked twice. Sealing, trim, grout, touch-ups and quality checks, so the small things look as good as the big ones.

  6. 06

    Walk through

We clean up, then we walk it with you. A final cleanup and a walkthrough of the finished work, so you see it, question it and sign off with confidence.

Questions

Good to know.

Do you build custom built-ins and shelving?

Yes. We build and install shelving, closets and built-ins sized to the wall, including the awkward alcoves common in older Houston houses.

Can you match trim in an older home?

In Heights, West University and Bellaire houses we can usually match profiles and proportions, or blend new trim so it reads as part of the room.

Can you add built-ins to a room that was never designed for them?

Yes. Alcoves in older Heights and West University houses, and plain walls in newer Memorial or Woodlands rooms, are both places we size shelving, closets and paneling to the wall that is there. Wood is acclimated in the house before it is cut.

Do you do carpentry as part of a kitchen or bath remodel?

Yes. Framing, soffits, cabinet modifications and finish trim are often the carpentry inside a larger remodel, handled by the same team.
