About Tile Fireplaces

In Houston a fireplace is usually the anchor of the room, not the heat source. A linear marble wall or a herringbone surround still has to be built with materials rated for the firebox.

We install new surrounds and retile existing ones in living rooms from Memorial to The Woodlands, using appropriate tile, mortar and grout, then seal for protection.

What is included

  • New tile fireplace installation
  • Remodeling and updating existing surrounds
  • Repair and retiling
  • Heat-resistant tile and fire-safe mortar
  • Grouting and sealing
Tile fireplace: double height marble

Built for Houston

The wall the living room is built around.

In Houston the fireplace is usually the anchor of the living room: the wall you see from the kitchen and the sofa. Updating it is a finish project, whether the surround is linear marble, herringbone tile or a stone great-room hearth.

We still build it for fire. Heat-rated tile and mortar, a sound substrate, and a mantel or panel detail sized to the room, from a Memorial great room to a smaller West University living room.

  • 01

    A finish, not just masonry

The surround is the wall people see. Mantel, paneling and tile are planned together so the hearth belongs to the room.

  • 02

    Scale of the wall

Two-story rooms in The Woodlands and Katy can swallow a small surround. We size the tile field to the volume.

  • 03

    Older brick boxes

Inside-the-Loop houses often have a brick fireplace that can be retiled once we see what is behind the face.

How it goes

What to expect, step by step.

  1. 01

    Consult

We come to you, look closely, and listen. A walkthrough of the space, measurements, an inspection of what is behind the surfaces, and a conversation about what you want and what is realistic.

  2. 02

    Plan

Materials and budget, settled before work begins. We help you choose materials and finishes, review the budget together, and define the scope so there are few surprises later.

  3. 03

    Prepare

The work you never see, done properly. Protecting your home, then demolition or surface, subfloor and site preparation, because good finishes depend on what is underneath.

  4. 04

    Build

Skilled hands on the actual work. Installation or restoration carried out by our team, with one point of contact for questions along the way.

  5. 05

    Finish

Details, checked twice. Sealing, trim, grout, touch-ups and quality checks, so the small things look as good as the big ones.

  6. 06

    Walk through

We clean up, then we walk it with you. A final cleanup and a walkthrough of the finished work, so you see it, question it and sign off with confidence.

Questions

Good to know.

Can you update an old brick or tile fireplace?

Yes. We review the existing surround and recommend whether to retile, resurface or rebuild. A lot of Houston living rooms have a brick box that no longer matches the house.

What tile is suitable around a fireplace?

Heat-resistant tile set with fire-safe mortar. We help you choose materials that look right and are appropriate next to the firebox, even if the fireplace is used only a few nights a year.

Can the fireplace be mostly a design piece?

Yes. Many Houston hearths are the visual center of the room and are lit only occasionally. The tile and mortar next to the opening are still specified for heat.

Can the surround be part of a larger living-room remodel?

Yes. Mantels, paneling and built-in shelving often travel with the tile, and our carpentry team handles that finish work.
